The staff of GWS provide specialty consulting services that
focus on commercial forest management, urban tree management, wetland
evaluation, fish and wildlife habitat assessment, ecological restoration,
environmental monitoring and Loss of Use studies for Aboriginal Land Claims.
Our staff has significant experience working on interdisciplinary consulting
teams performing watershed and community planning studies, recreation/tourism
projects and detailed engineering design plans for infrastructure servicing. A
sample of the types of projects completed by GWS are shown below.
Commercial Forest Management
GWS has worked with clients who own small woodlots and/or large forests covering thousands of acres and were able to provide a full range of services to help them realize the income potential from their timber resources. GWS can determine the values of wood products in your forest, prepare a silvicultural prescription and implement it through tree marking, market your timber to potential buyers, develop timber sale contracts and supervise logging activities to ensure contracts are fulfilled. If you would like to discover the income potential in your forest please contact us.
Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP)
Through the MFTIP program administered by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, GWS has helped landowners with woodlots over 10 acres in size better understand their forests ecological functions, while saving them money on property taxes. Whether your goal is to develop forest operation plans for timber production, wildlife habitat improvement or environmental protection GWS can help. Urban Tree Management
Working together with developers, homeowners and municipalities GWS has completed numerous Tree Preservation Plans designed to avoid and/or minimize impacts to trees from proposed developments. This work has often included the supervision of contractors removing hazard trees and/or pruning dead and damaged limbs. GWS is also able to offer valuable insight into the rehabilitation of urban environments by selecting the appropriate tree species and locations for planting.
Environmental Impact Studies (EIS) and Environmental Assessments (EAs)
GWS has conducted numerous EIS for various urban and rural developments including residential subdivisions, water and sewage systems, pits and quarries, and pipelines and utility corridors. Many of these development projects were carried out under the formal requirements of the EA process, which require considerable public and agency consultation.
GWS has carried out over 160 projects for a variety of public and private sector clients in northern and southern Ontario, as well as in Quebec, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. Our client list includes private landowners, municipalities, developers, sawmill and logging companies, First Nations, land appraisers, lawyers, engineering firms, golf courses and resort owners.
